Becoming One Community (BOC) provides services located in the Houston area of Texas, Harris County. The organization was established to provide a comprehensive array of services to men and women who have been incarcerated, and are pardoned or on parole. The primary goal is the successful re-entry into society, and this is accomplished through providing a complete menu of services, activities, workshops, seminars, and referrals to support organizations.
Based upon personal experience, the organization was formed to address every area of re-entry from lodging, creating a new set of friends and support systems, employment, life skills, and adjusting to the monumental changes in technology.
Successful re-entry and preventing recidivism entails re-education, change in attitudes, and a shift in old emotional and social responses. The organization, BOC, refers to the ex-offender becoming one with the society that has been re-entered, but also, finding a sense of unity within self, to have a focused set of goals that our different from past experiences.
Provides job search knowledge in order to successfully gain and retain employment in the competitive job market.
Provides resources and tips for improving and maintaining positive mental, emotional, and physical health.
Provides knowledge of rights, and legal resources for the ex-offender community.
Provides money management skills and resources for securing the client's financial future.
Provides knowledge on how to properly seek and secure decent housing. Also provides available resources for various types of housing agencies.
Provides mentoring opportunities for those clients who are successfully empowered within their communities.

The New Organizing Institute Education Fund (“NOIEF”), a District of Columbia non-profit corporation exempt from taxation under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 as amended, provides fiscal sponsorship for The Becoming One Community Foundation, a nonprofit corporation claiming exemption from taxation under section 501 (c) (3) of the Code.
